This is a high-impact, senior business development role, focussed on the South of England, created to accelerate ABB’s growth across the UK & Ireland energy industries landscape. You will combine deep market intelligence, strategic account development and proactive new-business hunting to drive sustainable, profitable growth in both traditional energy sectors and the fast-evolving energy transition space.
A key role in ABB Energy Industries UK Market & Account Development team, the successful candidate will develop and implement client awareness of ABB whilst aligning with ABB’s strategic vision to develop clients, and a shared commitment to sustainability. This will also include supporting Greenfield & Large Pursuit Sales, Studies Sales, within the overall sales team, and elements of external engagement with our customers and stakeholders.

Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the “eyes and ears” of ABB PAEN in your territory/segments: continuously monitor market dynamics, identify growth opportunities, contraction risks, new entrants, technology shifts, and emerging customer needs to inform strategic positioning.
- Design and execute strategic client plans for short and long-term growth; lead executive engagements, pursuit teams, and negotiations to secure major orders while tracking performance and resolving issues swiftly.
- Build deep, long-term client partnerships by providing strategic advice on business drivers and market trends; maintain strong understanding of client needs and decision-making structures.
- Develop robust internal and external networks; tailor communications to diverse stakeholders and manage relationships to drive collaboration and shared success.
- Champion ABB’s energy transition agenda: identify new opportunities in emerging segments, promote agility, pioneer innovative contract models, and act as a knowledge hub for new technologies and M&A prospects.
- Deliver accurate forecasting and actionable market insights to the UK leadership team.
- Represent ABB at industry events, conferences, and customer forums.
Qualifications for the Role:
- You will have proven experience successfully leading and managing market and account development initiatives, preferably within the Automation, Electrical, Telecommunications, or Digital sectors. Experience in new energies, such as Offshore Wind, Sustainable Fuels, CCUS, Nuclear SMR, is highly desirable.
- You will be a subject matter expert in at least one of the following: market analysis, account management processes, commercial agreements, customer relationship management.
- Excellent communication skills are essential. Whether it’s crafting compelling messages or collaborating with colleagues.
- Understanding our customers’ current and future needs is at the heart of what we do. Your external focus will drive our success.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in relevant field. Professional experience can compensate for formal education.
- You must be a highly motivated individual who can plan their time, priorities, and tasks effectively and able to multi-task to meet deadlines.
- You must be able to identify, agree, and implement change.
- You are at ease communicating in English.
- Forward-thinking, curious and entrepreneurial.
- Willing to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
- Intellectually agile: able to connect macro trends with customer-specific opportunities.
