This position reports to: Division General Counsel MOHP

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the fiduciary aspects and Motion business of ABB's operations in the UK and Ireland, leveraging your expertise in corporate law, compliance, contract negotiation, and risk management. Responsible for making required corporate legal filings, mitigating legal risks, facilitating corporate governance, supporting the Country Holding Officer and their respective reports, and driving business growth and operational speed and agility while maintaining compliance with local laws and regulations.

The work model for the role is: hybrid (#LI-hybrid)

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Leading end-to-end Legal & Integrity responsibilities for UK & Ireland entities, including governance, compliance, corporate secretarial work, and regulatory filings.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to the Country Holding Officer and senior leaders on governance, compliance, risk, and strategic legal matters, including M&A and operational requirements.
  • Monitoring legal affairs (e.g., litigation, reports) and advising on strategic fiduciary and Motion business issues.
  • Overseeing integrity investigations, contracting compliance, data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory certifications, ensuring alignment with audit, HSE, and risk standards.
  • Supporting strong corporate governance and leading legal aspects of M&A and divestiture transactions.
  • Providing expert counsel on Motion UK & Ireland contracts and commercial agreements; harmonising legal processes and collaborating with global Legal & Integrity teams.
  • Ensuring adherence to statutory regulations, internal policies, and ABB integrity and ethics standards.
  • Managing external legal service providers.
  • Delivering legal and integrity training to key stakeholders.

  • Strong skills in contract review, drafting, negotiation, M&A, and corporate secretarial compliance.
  • Proven ability to deliver clear, commercially balanced legal advice.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex issues to varied audiences.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with strong business acumen and common sense.
  • Expertise in GDPR, corporate governance, and fiduciary duties.
  • High attention to detail and analytical capability.
  • Collaborative, influential, and effective at driving change.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

Background/ Experience:

  • LLM or equivalent qualification from a reputable university.
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales).
  • 10+ years post qualification experience in a law firm and/or as in-house legal counsel.
  • Self-motivated, confident and ability to work under pressure.
  • Team-working and cooperation.
  • Communication and negotiation skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) required.
