The Business Development, Precious Metals will lead the strategic growth of gold and silver derivatives trading on the exchange, with a primary focus on Asia. This role is responsible for driving market adoption, developing liquidity, and transitioning precious metals trading activity from OTC markets to interact with exchange-traded derivatives. The successful candidate will possess deep technical expertise across the full precious metals trade lifecycle—from futures execution and clearing through physical delivery, vaulting, and bullion logistics—and will act as a key interface between market participants, infrastructure providers, and internal exchange stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the exchange's precious metals growth strategy for gold and silver derivatives, with a focus on Asia-Pacific markets.
- Identify structural inefficiencies in existing OTC precious metals markets and design exchange-based solutions to improve transparency, capital efficiency, and risk management.
- Lead initiatives to migrate trading flows from OTC spot and forwards into standardized, cleared derivatives products.
- Assess regional regulatory, tax, and market structure considerations impacting bullion trading and derivatives adoption.
- Develop and manage senior-level relationships with bullion banks, producers, refiners, traders, vault operators, logistics providers, and institutional investors.
- Drive sales, onboarding, and activation of new participants across futures, options, and physically deliverable contracts.
- Work closely with liquidity providers and market makers to support sustainable order book depth and tight spreads.
- Act as a subject-matter expert for clients on product design, contract specifications, delivery mechanisms, and margining.
- Maintain expert-level understanding of the full precious metals trade lifecycle, including: Futures and options execution; Clearing, margining, and settlement; Physical delivery processes; Vaulting, custody, and inventory management; Bullion quality standards, bar lists, and assay processes.
- Provide commercial and technical input into new product launches, contract enhancements, and delivery infrastructure.
- Collaborate with clearing, operations, and technology teams to ensure robust and scalable post-trade processes.
- Represent the exchange externally at industry conferences, regulatory discussions, and client forums.
- Provide market intelligence and feedback to senior management on competitive dynamics, client demand, and regional trends.
- Partner with legal, compliance, and regulatory teams to support approvals and market access initiatives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the regional sales and BD team as the business grows.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in precious metals markets, derivatives trading, or bullion banking.
- Deep technical knowledge of precious metals markets across derivatives and physically markets.
- Proven understanding of physical bullion markets, including vaulting, logistics, and settlement workflows.
- Strong background in OTC precious metals trading and demonstrated experience driving or supporting the transition to exchange-traded derivatives.
- Established network across the precious metals ecosystem in Asia, including banks, traders, refiners, and infrastructure providers.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of revenue growth, client acquisition, and liquidity development.
- Ability to engage credibly with both trading desks and operations teams on complex lifecycle and infrastructure topics.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across cultures and jurisdictions.
