Abatec Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Works Manager to join a leading regional highways and civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure and highways schemes across Bath and the surrounding South West region. The contractor has a strong reputation for delivering complex highways, earthworks, drainage, and public realm projects throughout the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven Works Manager to play a key role in the successful delivery of highways projects, overseeing operational activities on site while ensuring safety, programme, and quality targets are achieved.

The Role

As Works Manager, you will oversee multiple site activities and support delivery teams to ensure highways and civil engineering works are completed efficiently, safely, and to programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations across highways and infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, plant, and materials
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget
  • Drive health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance across all activities
  • Liaise with Site Agents, Project Managers, engineers, and clients
  • Monitor project progress and resolve operational issues effectively
  • Conduct site inspections, briefings, and toolbox talks
  • Ensure RAMS, permits, and site documentation are in place and adhered to
