Overview
Abatec is currently recruiting for a Section Engineer to support our client on the high-profile Devonport Dockyard Project in Plymouth. This vital defence infrastructure programme plays a key role in supporting the Royal Navy and national security, and we\’re looking for a driven engineering professional to help deliver this complex and rewarding project.
You\’ll work closely with the Site Agent and engineering teams to manage technical aspects of the works, ensuring efficient coordination, compliance, and successful delivery. The project is programmed until the early 2030s, so continuity of work and career progression should be a big selling point here.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and managing engineering works within your section of the project.
- Lead the day-to-day setting out, quality control, and technical support on site.
- Ensure that construction works are carried out in line with drawings, specifications, and programme.
- Work collaboratively with Site Supervisors, subcontractors, and other Engineers.
- Monitor progress and report on key performance indicators.
- Support quality assurance processes and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure all works comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
- Liaise with Designers, supply chain, and client representatives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Section Engineer or experienced Site Engineer ready to step up.
- Background in civil engineering, ideally within infrastructure, marine, or defence projects.
- Sound knowledge of construction methodologies and temporary works.
- Strong understanding of HSEQ legislation and best practices.
- Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- CSCS (Gold or equivalent), SSSTS/SMSTS, and First Aid certifications preferred.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar discipline.
- Eligibility to work in a high-security environment (security clearance will be required).
Rates and Benefits
