Abatec are working with a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company, to appoint an experienced Project Engineer (Electrical) to join their Infrastructure Water team in Exeter, supporting the successful delivery of wastewater infrastructure projects across the Southwest.
Working on projects ranging from £1m to £30m, you will play a key role in coordinating the electrical and ICA elements of schemes from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.

As Project Engineer you will
- Coordinate electrical and ICA engineering activities throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with client specifications, statutory regulations and industry standards.
- Review electrical designs, supplier documentation and technical submissions while supporting procurement, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning and handover.
- Work closely with civil, mechanical, process and commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems, including LV power, MCCs, PLC/SCADA and instrumentation.
- Provide technical support to site teams, monitoring installation progress, resolving engineering challenges and maintaining quality, safety and programme performance.
- Promote continuous improvement by supporting modern methods of construction, digital engineering and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate.
Our client requires a Project Engineer with
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least five years' experience in the water or wastewater sector.
- Strong knowledge of LV power systems, MCCs, PLC/SCADA, instrumentation and electrical commissioning.
- Experience supporting projects through design, procurement, construction and commissioning under NEC contracts.
- Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- SSSTS, CSCS and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions. (18th Edition and AMP framework experience are desirable.) This role is subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
