Abatec is assisting their client, a regional civil engineering contractor, with the recruitment of a permanently employed Design Manager. The successful candidate will work closely with the pre-construction team to lead the design and delivery of water and infrastructure projects across the South West region, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs across civil, structural, MEICA, environmental, and planning teams, ensuring the development of integrated, innovative and buildable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design team, ensuring they meet client requirements and project objectives
  • Manage the design function, ensuring design deliverables are produced to allocated key dates
  • Ensure the organisation of design elements, documenting in the Design Management Plan and preparing regular status updates
  • Attend programme, project and technical meetings
  • Provide support during construction and commissioning stages of work
  • Ensure that design complies with all Health and Safety codes and legislation

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience across all aspects of civil engineering projects, either from a design consultancy or contracting background
  • Strong understanding of commercial requirements within complex multidisciplinary design and build projects
  • Aware of delivery risk and mitigation strategies
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience with Temporary Works (desirable)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent), or working towards (desirable)

Salary and benefits
