We’re looking to appoint an experienced Environmental Manager or Environmental Advisor to join a long-term clean water framework in the South West. This is a key position within a well-established preconstruction team delivering trunk main replacements and wider clean water infrastructure works. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring environmental compliance and best practice are embedded at design stage; setting projects up properly before they ever reach site.
The Opportunity
- Freelance engagement
- £300–£400 per day (depending on experience and level)
- CIS or Ltd Company payment available
- Hybrid working - flexible South West based
- Bristol office attendance required at least once per week
- Long-term framework role (expected duration circa 5 years)
- Immediate start available
The Role
Sitting within the preconstruction team, you will:
- Work closely with in-house and external Designers to define and specify required environmental surveys during the design phase
- Coordinate with sub-contracted ecologists and review survey outputs
- Identify and specify any additional or future surveys required
- Ensure environmental permits, licences and approvals are prepared and submitted in time to enable works to commence
- Provide environmental guidance and compliance assurance across clean water and trunk main schemes
- Support the development of environmentally responsible, buildable solutions
This is a proactive role (less firefighting, more getting it right from day one).
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in an Environmental Manager or Advisor role within civil engineering or utilities
- Strong understanding of environmental permitting and compliance on infrastructure schemes
- Experience working at design / preconstruction stage
- Confident liaising with designers, consultants and specialist ecologists
- Knowledge of clean water or pipeline schemes advantageous
- Relevant environmental qualification (degree or equivalent)
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for genuine longevity on a major regional framework, with the flexibility of hybrid working and the stability of long-term secured work. If you’re looking for a role where you can properly influence environmental standards from the outset rather than just policing them on site this could be a very strong fit. Available to start ASAP.
