The Role & Key Responsibilities

Location: Melksham/Calne/Trowbridge

Does being outdoors, travelling between farms, and supporting the dairy industry appeal to you? If so, we want to hear from you! We’re looking for dedicated, self‑employed Milk Samplers to join our team. This role offers the freedom to work across the beautiful countryside, visiting farms and collecting individual cow milk samples throughout the year. If you enjoy being out on farms, witnessing the seasons change, and want flexible work, this role is for you!

As a Self‑Employed Milk Sampler, you’ll be at the heart of this process, visiting farms to collect milk samples from individual cows over a whole milking. These samples are crucial for NMR to deliver detailed reports, empowering farmers to make informed decisions that keep their herds healthy and their businesses thriving.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Flexible Hours: Milking times are typically early mornings or late evenings, making this role ideal for fitting around other commitments such as work, education, or family.
  • Training Provided: While farm experience is a bonus, it’s not essential as we provide all Self‑Employed Contractors with the training they need.
  • Independence & Variety: Enjoy a mix of farm visits across the countryside.

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid driving licence & own transport
  • Organised and self‑motivated individuals
  • An interest in farm life and dairy production

Self‑Employed Role

As a self‑employed contractor, you’ll have the autonomy to manage your work independently. Payment for this role is based on herd size, calculated on a per‑cow basis, and we’ll discuss the details before you’re allocated to farms. We’re looking for people who can manage their own schedule and report findings accurately.

As a Disability Confident employer, we’re committed to ensuring our application and recruitment processes work for everyone, so if you need any additional support (like alternative formats for your application, bringing a support dog to the offices, a sign language interpreter – or anything else) just let us know.
