Job Summary

The Virtual Technology Manager (VTM) serves as the strategic execution and operational orchestration partner for clients operating in highly regulated environments across Abacus’s Financial Services business unit (hedge funds, private equity firms, RIAs, asset managers, family offices) and Healthcare business unit (hospital and health systems, physician groups, payers, and other regulated healthcare organizations).
This role sits at the intersection of technology strategy, operational execution, cybersecurity, infrastructure modernization, cloud services, AI enablement, and service lifecycle management.
The VTM works closely with client stakeholders and internal Abacus teams to transform strategic priorities into operational reality by coordinating execution, driving technology adoption, improving operational maturity, and reducing risk across complex client environments.
Operating as a trusted technology advisor, the VTM helps align technology decisions to business outcomes while orchestrating delivery across engineering, security, professional services, operations, AI, and client experience teams.
Beyond their assigned client engagements, VTMs also execute against Abacus’s catalog of standardized VTM service offerings and technical deliverables, delivering engineering outcomes across the broader client base.
VTM engagements follow a portfolio-based or a dedicated assignment model.
Portfolio-based VTMs support a range of clients and hours based on business need, while dedicated VTMs are assigned primarily or exclusively to a single client.
In either model, the VTM remains an Abacus employee, accountable to Abacus’s standards, operating model, and management structure.
The core responsibilities and expectations of the VTM remain consistent across both engagement models, with dedicated assignments providing greater client-specific capacity, continuity, and embedded engagement.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth, operational leadership, executive communication skills, and the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders and technologies.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary operational technology partner for assigned clients, developing a deep understanding of each client’s environment, operations, priorities, and technology needs, and aligning infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies to business objectives.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between client stakeholders and Abacus delivery teams, ensuring technical needs are clearly understood, appropriately prioritized, and driven through resolution.
- Perform targeted hands‑on technical work within the VTM scope while coordinating larger, specialized, or project‑based engineering efforts through the appropriate Abacus delivery teams.
- Help clients operationalize technology initiatives within regulated environments by supporting infrastructure planning, governance alignment, security, operational readiness, modernization, and adoption.
- Provide technical guidance and coordinate complex support matters and escalations across Support, Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, AI, Professional Services, Operations, and vendors.
- Guide clients through modernization initiatives involving cloud platforms, cybersecurity, identity and access management, infrastructure lifecycle management, automation, collaboration platforms, and operational tooling.
- Support clients in evaluating, preparing for, and operationalizing AI‑enabled solutions, coordinating specialized AI design and implementation resources where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational maturity, resiliency, scalability, governance, automation, and long‑term technology effectiveness.
- Maintain oversight of service activity, recurring concerns, escalations, and technical debt, ensuring ownership, communication, and follow‑through, and driving continuous improvement.
- Maintain regular engagement with client technical and operational stakeholders through scheduled meetings, ongoing communication, service reviews, and technology planning.
- Execute against Abacus’s catalog of standardized VTM service offerings and technical deliverables, delivering engineering outcomes across the broader client base beyond one’s own assigned engagements.
- For dedicated assignments, operate as an extension of the client’s technology organization while remaining accountable to Abacus’s standards and management structure.

Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership, solutions architecture, technology consulting, managed services, or client‑facing technology advisory role, coordinating complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders and technologies.

- Experience working at an MSP a plus
