Healthcare / Clinical Negligence (Defence) Partner

The Opportunity:

A law firm in Belfast is keen to attract a highly experienced Partner (or Legal Director level) to join their healthcare team. You will join a competitive team and handle a varied caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims, including matters involving doctors, nurses, private hospitals, and other healthcare providers. You’ll advise clients on complex medical, legal, and procedural issues, working closely with both insurers and insured professionals to achieve successful outcomes.

Your work will include:

  • Managing a diverse caseload of clinical negligence and healthcare-related claims from instruction through to resolution.
  • Advising insurers and their insureds (including hospitals, consultants, and medical practitioners) on liability, quantum, and strategy.
  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, and instructions to experts and counsel.
  • Liaising with clients, experts, and barristers, ensuring cases progress efficiently and proactively.
  • Assisting senior partners on high-value and complex group actions.
  • Staying up to date with developments in healthcare law, case law, and industry practice.

The Person:

Ideally, you will offer extensive clinical negligence claims experience at a senior level. Alternatively, if you are operating in a different area of law and can offer transferable leadership and management skills, then this may be feasible as well e.g. defence solicitor in EL/PL or car insurance.
