Are you a driven Credit Controller who enjoys building strong customer relationships while keeping the ledger in great shape? We’re looking for a Credit Controller to join our Finance team in Northampton, reporting into the Credit Manager. This is a key role focused on robust ledger management, query resolution and proactive cash collection, partnering closely with Customer Service teams (Corby & Edinburgh) and Commercial Account Managers.
Location & travel: Predominantly office-based in Northampton, with occasional travel to Corby and Edinburgh.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
What you’ll be doing:
- Proactive cash collection and overdue debt chasing with pace, persistence and professionalism
- End-to-end query resolution to keep the ledger clean and overdue minimal
- Monitoring credit limits and customer terms, supporting the held order process
- Supporting month-end close and delivering key reporting outputs
- Preparing and contributing to aged debt reviews, following up actions quickly
- Supporting intercompany reconciliations and internal query management
- Processing manual invoices and credits (returns, complaints, collections, cross-charges)
- Supporting plastic pallet accounting plus ad hoc reporting
- Setting up new customer accounts in line with governance and controls
- Working compliantly with company credit policies and the ABF Red Book / Financial Control Framework, and supporting audits
What we’re looking for:
- 3+ years’ Credit Control experience (manufacturing environment ideal, not essential)
- Confident communicator; able to build relationships and influence outcomes
- Highly organised, great at prioritising and hitting deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and a “do it right” mindset
- Comfortable with accounting systems plus Excel/Word/Outlook
- Solid understanding of credit risk, collections, and managing high-value/complex accounts
- Experience using credit agencies/reports and KPIs to support credit decisions
- High levels of integrity and accountability
