The Quality Specialist provides technical support to the site in the area of quality, food/feed safety and legality compliance and acts as a main point of contact for HACCP, audit programs, quality investment projects and assisting the introduction of new materials. They lead a team of 4 Quality SMEs to provide specialist support to production departments.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinates third party audits by external bodies for FEMAS & BRC. Needs to ensure that appropriate action plans are in place.
- Lead team of SMEs to deliver quality support to the other departments.
- Manage systems to ensure compliance to EHS, GMP (including HACCP), Food/Feed Safety, Product Integrity, Legality, Quality Standards.
- Co-ordinate and monitor VPO audit requirements.
- Take a lead role in site HACCP team and provide training and coaching for team members.
- Assist with capital projects as required.
Key Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Academic: Honours degree in a scientific discipline.
Vocational: Associate level IGB. Diploma in Management. Competent IT user.

Profile of the Job Holder: The successful applicant will have had management and leadership experience at a junior level prior to taking up this position and will develop through the role to be a candidate for more senior management roles in Compliance or other functions. They would benefit from strong technical skills in the areas of laboratory analytical techniques, both chemical and microbiological, and practical brewing and packaging knowledge.
Education:
- Qualified to HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in either Food Engineering, Food Science, or Chemical/Biological Science.
- HACCP level 3 or equivalent.
Experience:
- Hands on experience of Food and Feed Safety Legislation inclusive of BRC/FEMAS and HACCP.
- Project management.
- Experience of management systems and problem solving preferably within QC environment.
- Experience of working with Quality Methods principles and techniques (Phys-chem and Microbiology).
- A sound knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques.
- Experience of delivering process improvement.
- Experience of supporting/promoting good contractor relationships.
Technical Competencies:
- Sound knowledge of environmental and safety management processes.
- Good organization skills working to strict deadlines.
- Demonstrates negotiation skills.
- Basic business sense, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project etc.).
