Primary purpose and function of position

As an Engineering Apprentice, you will be an active member of the Reliability and Operations team, helping to maintain the safety, reliability and performance of brewery machinery, utilities and production equipment.

Working under appropriate supervision, you will develop practical engineering skills while completing a structured apprenticeship programme.

  • Key Tasks: Responsibilities
  • Assisting with planned, preventive and condition-based maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and availability.
  • Responding promptly to equipment breakdowns and supporting safe, effective repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Developing fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and automated systems.
  • Carrying out routine equipment inspections, identifying defects or deterioration and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Completing maintenance tasks in accordance with engineering procedures, manufacturer guidance and site standards, alongside VPO Maintenance Pillar requirements.
  • Following all health and safety requirements, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, permit procedures and isolation/lock-off processes.
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, product quality and environmental compliance throughout all engineering activities.
  • Accurately recording maintenance work, inspection findings, equipment faults and parts used within the site CMMS SAP System.
  • Supporting root-cause investigations into equipment failures and helping to implement effective corrective actions.
  • Contributing ideas and practical support to continuous-improvement activities focused on safety, quality, efficiency, waste reduction and equipment performance.
  • Applying Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Operating Practices across all areas of the brewery.
  • Assisting with the installation, commissioning, modification and improvement of machinery and engineering systems.
  • Upkeeping 5S Standards - maintain engineering workshops, tools, spare parts and work areas in a safe, clean and organised condition.
