We’re looking for dedicated, self-employed Milk Recorders. This role offers the freedom to work across the beautiful countryside, visiting dairy farms and collecting individual cow milk samples and updating computerised records throughout the year. If you enjoy being out on farms, witnessing the seasons change, and want flexible work, this role is for you!
NMR (National Milk Records) supports the UK dairy industry by providing essential services like milk testing, recording, and data insights. Our work helps farmers monitor herd health, improve milk quality, and boost productivity, offering valuable information on breeding, nutrition, and disease management.
As a Self-Employed Milk Recorder, you’ll be at the heart of this process, visiting dairy farms to collect milk samples and events for individual cows. The samples and data collected are crucial for NMR to deliver detailed reports, empowering farmers to make informed decisions that keep their herds healthy and their businesses thriving.

- Flexible Hours: Milking times are typically early mornings or late evenings, making this role ideal for fitting around other commitments such as work, education, or family. This is a genuine part-time, self-employed role offering flexible working in a field-based environment.
- Training Provided: While farm experience is a bonus, it’s not essential as we provide all Self-Employed Contractors with the farm safety training they need. Anyone with previous experience as a Dairy farm technician, agricultural technician, farm data collection or similar roles within the dairy industry or livestock recording would be a great fit but the role is also perfect if you are looking for a change of career or to get into the dairy industry.
- Independence & Variety: Enjoy a mix of farm visits across the countryside.
What We’re Looking For
- Valid driving licence & own transport
- Organised and self-motivated individuals
- An interest in farm life and dairy production
- Basic computer skills and access to Wi-Fi
Self-Employed Role
As a self-employed contractor, you’ll have the autonomy to manage your work independently. Payment for this role is based on herd size, calculated on a per-cow basis, and we’ll discuss the details before you’re allocated to a farm/s.
