The Role & Key Responsibilities

Do you have experience of managing complex projects and programmes within agriculture? We’re looking for an Agricultural Sustainability Manager to focus on strategy and business development in order to support our corporate customers respond to evolving sustainability challenges across the agricultural supply chain. This is a broad, influential role combining sustainability strategy, customer relationship management, business development and project delivery. You’ll work with processors, retailers and farming audiences, translating complex policy and technical developments into practical strategies, projects and content. The role offers significant scope within a larger organisation and the opportunity to shape how we support customers in this evolving area.
What you’ll do:
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with processor and retailer customers.
- Help mid-sized processors develop and implement sustainability strategies.
- Direct and coordinate customer projects while balancing technical quality and commercial delivery.
- Act as a trusted technical reference on emerging sustainability policy and developments affecting agriculture and food supply chains.
- Translate complex topics—including areas such as water quality, carbon, biodiversity and air quality—into clear, commercially relevant guidance.
- Produce technical content for customers, colleagues and internal training.
- Equip consultants with the knowledge and materials they need to deliver customer and farmer meetings.
- Deliver meetings and presentations directly to customers and farming audiences where appropriate.
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities while reinforcing current client relationships.
- Work across the organisation, drawing on subject matter knowledge where needed.
- Potentially take on people-management responsibilities as the team evolves, depending on your experience and strengths.
What we’re looking for:
- Extensive experience in sustainability strategy across agriculture, food, retail, processing, or a closely related field.
- An ability to manage customer relationships, accounts or business-development activity.
- Experience leading projects and turning strategic objectives into practical delivery.
- Up-to-date awareness of sustainability policy and emerging issues affecting agricultural supply chains.
- The credibility to advise customers and communicate technical subjects clearly to varied audiences.
- Well-developed writing skills, along with experience preparing technical or training resources.
- A relevant degree.
- A collaborative, commercially minded approach and the ability to work across different specialist teams.
- Willingness to travel regularly across the UK for customer visits, site meetings and events.
We’re prioritising someone who can combine sustainability understanding with solid account management and commercial skills. You do not need to be the deepest technical specialist in every sustainability topic; knowing how to identify what matters, bring in the right expertise and turn it into value for customers is key.
Location and travel
This is a UK-wide role involving regular travel to processor and retailer customers, sites and farmer meetings. A Midlands base or strong access to the motorway network would be helpful, but we won’t use geography as an unnecessary barrier for the right person with the appetite to travel.
