About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Building Control to join a forward-thinking local authority. This is a senior leadership role where you will help deliver a high-quality Building Control service, ensuring developments meet regulatory standards for safety, sustainability, and design. You will support the Head of Building Control in leading the service, managing a team of inspectors, and overseeing complex and high-risk projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support a team of Building Inspectors, including Specialist and Trainee Inspectors
  • Carry out technical assessments and ensure compliance with relevant building legislation
  • Oversee complex and high-risk building projects, including plan checks and site inspections
  • Lead engagement with the Building Safety Regulator and other stakeholders
  • Handle enforcement matters, including dangerous structures and unauthorised works
  • Contribute to committee responses, MDT working, and service performance reporting
  • Represent the Council in legal proceedings where required
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control when necessary

Requirements

  • Significant experience within Building Control at a senior level
  • Registered Building Inspector (Class 3) or equivalent qualification
