To carry out legal casework within the areas of responsibility allocated. Drafting legal documentation and providing Client support. Provide support in relation to the procurement and delivery of services and goods.
Responsibilities
- To provide and carry out a range of legal casework to enable the efficient operation of the work of the Unit.
- To prepare and assist in the preparation of court bundles, tribunal and independent panel papers, education appeals, reports, statements, applications, information, summonses and such other written material as may be required in connection with the council's legal work.
- The job holder may attend court to support the solicitor/barrister in particular cases.
- The job holder may provide support in relation to the procurement and delivery of services and goods.
- The job holder may assist with the organising of and attendance at education appeals, tribunals, committees and public inquiries.
- The job holder will maintain legal files ensuring that all processes are adhered to.
- To assist in the provision of case management/correspondence as well as ensuring the case management system is monitored for compliance and timescales.
- To assist in the administration of the case management system, adding new users, communicating, testing and providing support for users of the system.
- To ensure that the provision of legal services meets clients expectations and agreed targets of performance and demonstrate that the unit is accountable and actively pursuing quality assurance and customer care policies.
- To ensure that all customer/client enquiries are dealt with in a professional manner.
- To undertake any other duties as may be required within Legal Services that are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility.
- The job holder may be assigned to a different Team or Unit within the same Group to match the volume, nature and allocation of work, having regard to his or her experience and specialism.
- To participate in all aspects of training and development as directed and to use all relevant learning opportunities to improve personal skills so as to improve effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
- To understand and embrace the City Council's policies and practices on attendance which seek to establish a positive attendance culture and promote staff welfare.
- To ensure that all City Council policy statements are observed and carried out so that the working environment is free from harassment, discrimination and victimisation.
- Develop the City Council's commitment to equal opportunities and to promote nondiscriminatory practices in all aspects of work undertaken.
- In accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998, jobholders should take reasonable care to ensure that personal data is not disclosed outside Council procedures, or use personal data held on others for their own purposes. Jobholders should ensure that they maintain files both paper and electronic as in accordance with the corporate retention policy.
- In accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, ensure requests for non personal information are dealt with in accordance with the Council's written procedures.
