Aatom Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Technical Officer to join a local authority on a 12-month contract, with the potential for extension. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a housing improvements team, delivering essential adaptation and grant-funded works to residents.
About the Role
Supporting the Principal Housing Improvement Officer, you will play a key role in delivering an efficient and customer-focused Home Improvement Service. You will assess adaptation requirements, produce technical designs, and oversee works to ensure high-quality outcomes that meet legislative and client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all technical aspects of housing grants and loans from initial enquiry through to completion
- Carry out property inspections in line with HHSRS, Decent Homes Standard, and Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) requirements
- Undertake surveys and prepare detailed plans, specifications, and schedules of work
- Administer works contracts, instruct contractors, and monitor quality and progress on site
- Liaise with Occupational Therapists, clients, and partner agencies to design suitable adaptations
- Provide technical advice and support to residents throughout the process
- Conduct interim valuations, variations, and final inspections to authorise contractor payments
- Ensure all works comply with building regulations, planning requirements, and health & safety legislation
- Maintain accurate records and case management information systems
- Monitor contractor performance and contribute to continuous service improvement
Requirements
Essential
- HND/HNC in Building Construction, Surveying, or equivalent experience
- Experience in housing adaptations, property surveys, or technical housing services
- Knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and housing standards
- Ability to produce technical drawings using CAD
- Strong understanding of construction processes and contract management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage a caseload independently
