Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Building Control Technician on a 6 months contract and for the right candidate may be offered full time employment subject to performance.
Role:
- To supervise an area of the borough to ensure compliance with building control legislation.
- Assist with the implementation of marketing, service delivery, quality initiatives, recovery of fees and charges, management of caseload and meet objectives for programmed and reactive work within timescales.
- Provide detailed information on individual cases or projects for senior officers at regular case reviews.
- The role involves frequent lone working and carrying out site inspections of all types of building work in all stages of construction, including the use of ladders and scaffolding and the descent into excavations.
- On occasion may be exposed to noise and dirt on site.
- Although initially allocated to one area team, the postholder may be required to transfer between teams.
- Building regulation work is carried out in an increasingly commercial environment.
- The postholder will be required to balance the needs of the public service with those of operating in competition with the private sector for the provision of particular services.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Behaviours and Experience
Qualifications:
- Essential: A recognised degree in construction/surveying or related faculty, leading to corporate membership of RICS or equivalent.
- Desirable: CSCS card.
Knowledge:
- Have a basic knowledge of at least one of the following: Building Construction, Structural engineering, Fire safety in buildings, Supervision of building work on site.
- Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of main legislation in order to prepare reports and schedules and where authorised, serve notices and take enforcement action, i.e. the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations.
