Job Description

Technical Applications Specialist - Tooling & Moulding Solutions. Location: South of England (Field / Hybrid). Package: Up to Β£57,500 basic (flexibility for specialist expertise) + performance bonus + company car / allowance + comprehensive benefits package. Are you an experienced tooling, injection moulding, or rubber moulding engineer looking to step away from the shop floor or design office into a high-impact, consultative commercial role?

You will join an established British precision engineering leader with over 50 years of heritage supporting high-performance automotive, aerospace, and marine OEMs. Rather than cold calling, this position focuses entirely on inbound technical enquiries, high-value framework repeat business, and technical tender bids. You will act as the engineering bridge between client R&D teams and internal production, interpreting complex specifications and turning engineering challenges into viable manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret incoming engineering specifications, 2D/3D CAD models, and technical drawings alongside client R&D engineers.
  • Assess project feasibility, material selection (thermoplastics, elastomers, engineered rubbers), and tooling options (injection, compression, transfer moulding).
  • Lead technical bid submissions, cost estimations, and responses to competitive tenders.
  • Manage established key accounts, ensuring technical continuity and identifying follow-on project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with production and tooling design teams to ensure seamless transition from quotation to prototype and production.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven technical expertise in precision tooling, mould manufacture, or polymer/elastomer processing (specifically injection moulding, rubber/compression moulding, or TPE).
  • Ability to interrogate CAD drawings, understand DFM (Design for Manufacture) principles, and discuss tolerances and tooling lifecycles peer-to-peer with R&D heads.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an appetite for project estimation, client relationship building, and commercial negotiation. Prior sales experience is welcome, but an engineer taking their first step into a commercial role with the right aptitude will receive full mentorship and support.
  • Methodical, self-directed organisation to manage simultaneous tender deadlines and technical customer interactions.

The Package

  • Base salary up to Β£57,500 (with flexibility for established industry specialists)
  • Annual performance bonus scheme
  • Company car or cash car allowance
  • Contributory pension (5%)
  • Comprehensive private healthcare, dental, and optical cover
  • 22 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing with service up to 27 days)
