Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you design and deliver mechanical solutions for Zephyr programmes within a multidisciplinary team. You will contribute to the digital design record and work with manufacturing, procurement, testing and assembly across the product lifecycle. You’ll tackle lightweight aerospace structures in a fast-paced environment that values innovation and technical excellence. You’ll shape robust solutions and influence manufacturability and production efficiency, with a strong focus on impact and collaboration.

Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical design solutions for Zephyr programmes, individually or in teams
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks
- Support manufacturing by resolving design issues and providing hands-on engineering support
- Lead or participate in design reviews and maturity gate activities
- Support mechanical testing to validate designs
- Manage design updates and changes via configuration and change control
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, performance, manufacturability and efficiency
- Integrate Design for Manufacture principles early in the design process
- Own engineering work packages from concept through delivery
- Collaborate with procurement and production teams to embed DfM
Key requirements
- Significant experience in mechanical design engineering
- Degree, HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
- Strong SolidWorks proficiency
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) in a CAD environment
- Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and processes
- Ability to translate technical requirements into robust engineering solutions
- Experience developing innovative solutions for technically challenging applications
- Knowledge of lightweight composite structures and design
