Overview
In this role you will lead the avionics team at AALTO, driving the design, development and integration of avionics for the Zephyr high‑altitude platform. You will collaborate with cross‑functional peers to deliver on-time, quality avionics solutions and mentor junior engineers. The position sits at the heart of in‑house manufacturing and system integration, with a mission to advance Stratospace capabilities. You’ll influence safety, performance and regulatory compliance while shaping how we scale avionics operations.

Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day activities of the avionics team to meet agreed goals
- Develop team skills and provide mentorship and coaching to junior engineers
- Participate in recruitment and team growth activities
- Oversee design, development and integration of avionics subsystems for Zephyr
- Manage development programmes within avionics ensuring on-time delivery and quality
- Act as design authority for avionics, ensuring safety, performance and regulatory compliance
- Coordinate with manufacturing, line maintenance, systems and software teams to ensure seamless integration
Key requirements
- Extensive avionics experience in a regulated industry
- Significant hands-on avionics experience
- Ability to own technical problems and drive to resolution
- Evidence of growing leadership capability including mentoring or guiding junior engineers
- Ability to operate with increasing autonomy and make sound engineering decisions with limited supervision
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement and engineering process shaping
