AACE has a number of excellent opportunities for applicants with qualification and experience in safety engineering to join our safety and environmental team. Applicants will ideally have worked in the military or supporting defence organisations and had exposure to providing safety support under:
- Military Aviation Regulation
- Defence Land Safety Regulation
- Defence Maritime Regulation
- Defence Nuclear Safety Regulation
- Defence Ordnance Munitions and Explosives Regulation
Tasks may include development of safety artefacts including safety & environmental management plans, hazard logs, safety assessment reports, safety cases and safety case reports, assessment of functional safety, and the provision of specialist safety advice, guidance and leadership. Further opportunities for the right candidate may include support to recruitment, mentoring and business development. Role characteristics include the desire to meet or exceed client requirements with high quality support and outputs, and a pro-active, flexible and constructive approach.
You will be working within an experienced team of subject matter experts (SMEs) providing safety advice, guidance and leadership in a range of aviation, land and maritime projects and programmes. You will need to be conversant with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) as well as possess excellent written and oral English skills.
Key skills and experience
- Essential: Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate engineering discipline;
- Essential: Comprehensive engineering experience in air, land or marine systems or in supporting organisations / companies;
- Essential: Detailed working knowledge and / or experience in the MOD safety processes such as DEFSTAN 00-056, JSP 375, JSP 376, JSP 815, Defence Safety Authority (DSA) regulations and the Acquisition Safety and Environment Management System (ASEMS) Project Oriented Safety Management System (POSMS);
- Essential: Ability to hold SC security clearance;
- Essential: Authoring skills for safety artefacts including, but not limited to: hazard logs, safety case reports and ALARP justifications / statements;
- Essential: Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply these confidently at all levels;
- Essential: Competent with the full MS Office 365 suite of applications;
- Desirable: Working knowledge and experience in the use of Safety Engineering tools and techniques such as: ASCE, BowTie, Event Tree Analysis (ETA) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Cassandra / eCassandra.
- Desirable: Incorporated or Chartered Engineer membership of an industry and/or domain related institute or institution.
