About AACE

AACE is a Bristol-based, family-owned engineering consultancy supporting the UK Defence sector. We provide safety, environmental, engineering, and technical consultancy services across a broad range of programmes and platforms. As our Land capability continues to grow, we are looking for experienced safety engineers to help deliver high-quality support to our customers and contribute to the development of our team.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Land Safety Engineer to join our growing Land Safety Team.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced safety engineer who can take ownership of delivery, work independently with customers, and provide pragmatic safety advice across a range of defence projects. You will support safety case development, hazard management, safety governance, and wider safety assurance activities throughout the equipment lifecycle.

Whilst this role sits within AACE's Land Safety Team, we welcome applications from candidates with experience from Land, Maritime, Air, Weapons, or other defence-related safety‑critical domains. We recognise that strong safety engineering principles are transferable across domains, and we value individuals who can apply structured safety thinking to complex engineering challenges.

Working within a growing SME consultancy, you will have the opportunity to work directly with MOD and industry stakeholders, support business development activities, help shape delivery approaches, and play a key role in developing the next generation of safety engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safety engineering activities across land projects, taking ownership of defined workstreams
  • Lead and contribute to the development of safety artefacts, including Safety Case Reports, hazard logs, and ALARP justifications
  • Facilitate and support safety governance activities, including Safety Panels, working groups, and reviews
  • Engage with MOD, DE&S, and industry stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on safety matters
  • Ensure compliance with MOD policy, legislation, and applicable standards
  • Support bid and proposal activities through technical contributions and solution development
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers, supporting their professional development
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of AACE's Land Safety capability

Key Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in safety engineering within the MOD, defence sector, ex‑military environment, or a comparable safety‑critical industry
  • Experience applying safety engineering principles within one or more defence domains, such as Land, Maritime, Air, Weapons, or related safety‑critical environments
  • Strong working knowledge of MOD safety frameworks such as DEF STAN 00-056, POSMS/ASEMS, JSPs, and DSA regulations
  • Proven experience delivering safety case development and hazard management activities across the lifecycle
  • Proven ability to lead tasks or workstreams independently
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Familiarity with safety tools such as eCassandra, GSN, Reliability Workbench, or equivalent safety analysis tools
  • Experience supporting environmental management activities, including POEMS and environmental case development
  • Knowledge of safety and risk analysis techniques such as FTA, ETA, BowTie, FMECA, or similar methodologies
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards professional registration
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline

Why Join AACE?

Our Land team works on complex, high‑impact MOD programmes, offering meaningful and varied work from day one. As a growing capability area, this role provides a genuine opportunity to shape delivery approaches and influence how safety is delivered across programmes.

We offer:

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • 28 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Company pension scheme (2% employee contribution / 6% company contribution)
  • Private healthcare, with options for family cover
  • Discretionary bonus scheme linked to performance and business development
  • Support for Continued Professional Development (CPD), including training, qualifications, mentoring, and professional registration
  • Opportunity to work across multiple defence domains and develop a broad range of technical and consultancy skills

If you are looking for a role where you can make a genuine impact, work directly with customers, and help shape the future of a growing Land Safety capability, we'd like to hear from you.
