ROLE PURPOSE

  • Team Management: Lead, motivate and develop the team in line with our values including culture, engagement, and performance standards. In collaboration with the Principal Consultant, set clear and measurable goals and objectives for team members. Hold regular 121’s, to provide support to team members and ensure achievement of individual objectives, targets and development plans. Providing visible leadership, fully adopting our hybrid way of working to both represent AAB People within the AAB Group and also spending time in person with direct reports. Maintain up to date knowledge of employment legislation and practice in the team to ensure high quality services and reduce risk to AAB People. Act as central ‘hub’ for internal communications and day to day point of contact for the team.
  • Client Consulting: Manage own client portfolio, providing commercially focussed advice and recommendations around day-to-day HR and employment issues, including for example, disciplinary, grievances, appeals and other employee-related issues and on strategic initiatives where required. Deliver personal HR consulting services to the highest standards. Bring new thinking to our clients to enable the development of their HR function, support best practices, develop successful leaders and add value. Build long-term, lasting relationships where AAB People become a trusted advisor, supporting clients through challenges and opportunities. Undertake regular client portfolio reviews with team members to identify growth opportunities and ‘at risk’ clients, feeding outcome into business forecasting. Closely monitor client relationship statuses across the team’s portfolio, seeking and utilising client feedback to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Service Delivery: Ensure SLAs for service delivery are met across your team. Monitor delivery of operational KPIs aligned to budget, putting in place improvement plans if appropriate at an individual or team level. Identify and own emerging issues through to conclusion, communicating with your Principal Consultant as appropriate. Work closely with the Principal Consultant and Operations Director on all operational aspects of the HR teams in Scotland including processes, fees/finance, client allocation and capacity planning and generally ensuring a high-quality service. Monitor and advise on any issues that present a risk or opportunity to the business.
  • Business Development: Work in close collaboration with the senior management team to lead and grow the AAB People business, building on the brand reputation for quality, innovation, professionalism and results delivered with an approachable and friendly style. Actively work with team members to monitor existing client evolution and proactively identify opportunities for growth of our services. Work with Principal Consultants to build plans to maximise opportunities with these clients. Work with the Principal Consultant and Commercial Director on prospective client meetings. Actively upsell the broad service offering across the AAB People business unit. Promote AAB People service offering within the wider AAB Group, including maximising cross company referrals. Build close working relationships with other departments in both the Business Unit and in the wider Group. Encourage cross-selling and representation of your team across the BU and the Group. Represent AAB People externally, including networking and involvement in commercial activities to develop and market our services to new and existing clients, strategic relationships and partnerships, and professional associations. Report weekly/monthly on all BD activities.

AAB People team you will have the opportunity to be involved in a broader range of activities than those described above providing the opportunity to develop your skills and experience further. This Job Specification will evolve in time, as the Team Manager role is new to Scotland and so will develop further. The business unit will also look to align job specs across the unit later in the year once individuals have settled into their roles.

Experience & qualifications

  • Solid theoretical knowledge of HR practice, employee relations and legislative requirements and an understanding of how to translate this into simple, effective and practical advice and tools for clients.
  • Effective leadership, management and delegation skills.
  • A team player who leads from the centre, in a way that is appropriate for the experience level of your team members.
  • Ability to identify and support personal development needs (for direct reports and self).
  • The ability to tailor solutions to requirements and take a commercial and client-focused approach to complex problem solving.
  • Capable of working with agility in an often busy and changing environment and are comfortable covering a variety of tasks, including delivery of your own projects.
  • Solutions-orientated, taking time to understand full scope of issues which present themselves and taking ownership of resolution.
  • Can make effective and timely decisions, utilising all available information.
  • Ability to generate ideas and thought leadership content.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a friendly and collaborative approach.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills.

Further details of position

The role is based in London with a requirement to travel to client sites, and throughout the UK and Ireland on an ad-hoc basis. There is flexibility to work between the office and home, but there is an expectation that you are in the London office 2-3 days per week.
