Design Manager – Life Sciences Projects Location: Macclesfield (On-site, commutable from Manchester / Cheshire) Salary: £80,000 – £100,000 DOE Hourly Rate (Contract): £65 – £75/hr Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a long-term, on-site framework team delivering multiple small-scale projects within a live manufacturing environment. This is a key position on a multi-year framework agreement focused on fit-out and remodelling works in the life sciences sector. The ideal candidate will be based locally and possess strong experience in managing the design process from early concept through to completion across multiple concurrent projects. Key Responsibilities:  Oversee and coordinate the full design lifecycle (RIBA Stages 2–7) across multiple live projects ranging in value from £300k to £4m.  Collaborate closely with client-side stakeholders and project delivery teams to manage design development and integration.  Act as the point of contact for design issues on-site, ensuring timely resolution and design compliance.  Lead coordination between architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines.  Ensure all design deliverables align with programme milestones, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.  Drive quality, safety, and cost-efficiency through proactive design management.  Maintain accurate design records, technical submissions, and design review documentation.  Apply NEC contract knowledge to manage design obligations and change control processes. Required Qualifications & Experience:  7+ years\’ experience in design management or a lead design role within complex building projects.  Background in Architecture or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health) design essential.  Proven experience delivering fit-out or remodelling projects in life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, or controlled environments.  Excellent working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts and the implications on design responsibilities.  Strong coordination skills across RIBA stages, with a focus on managing multiple concurrent workstreams.  Experience with live site environments and fast-track project delivery.  Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.  Proficiency in reviewing and coordinating technical drawings and specifications. Desirable:  Chartered status with RIBA, CIBSE, or equivalent (or working toward it).  Familiarity with cleanroom design, laboratory standards, or GMP environments.  Experience with digital design management tools (e.g., BIM 360, Navisworks, or similar)
