Job Purpose
To manage a portfolio of clients and oversee the delivery of high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services within a busy Chartered Accountancy practice. The Accounts Manager will supervise a team of qualified staff, review work, maintain strong client relationships, and support the Partners in developing the firm’s presence across Inverness and the wider Highlands.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Act as a primary point of contact for clients
- Review accounts, tax returns, and VAT returns prepared by colleagues
- Ensure work is completed within deadlines and budgets
- Identify opportunities for additional services
- Review and finalise statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP and Companies House requirements
- Review corporation tax computations and self‑assessment returns
- Oversee VAT compliance including MTD requirements
- Provide proactive tax and business planning advice
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior and experienced qualified staff
- Review working papers and provide constructive feedback
- Assist with staff training and development
- Assist with the management of workflow within the team
- Provide business advisory support including management accounts, forecasting, and cashflow planning
- Attend client meetings in support of the partners and independently as required
Person Specification
- Significant experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and review
- Experience reviewing corporation tax and personal tax returns
- Experience managing a client portfolio
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Proficient in cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Experience in business advisory and tax planning
