An established and growing main contractor operating nationally across multiple construction sectors is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team. The role offers the opportunity to take commercial ownership of complex, high-value projects and play a key role in driving financial performance and project success.
The business delivers technically challenging schemes across earthworks, civils, infrastructure and demolition, including city-centre developments, major transport interfaces, and projects requiring detailed planning and risk management.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the commercial management of large-scale construction projects from pre-contract through to final account.
- Oversee cost control, forecasting, valuations, and financial reporting to ensure commercial targets are met.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Manage and mitigate commercial and contractual risk, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
- Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Directors to provide commercial insight and guidance.
- Produce accurate monthly cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and cash flow forecasts.
- Support procurement strategies and subcontractor management.
- Mentor and support junior Quantity Surveyors, promoting consistent standards and best practice.
- Ensure all commercial activities align with company procedures and industry regulations.
- Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced Quantity Surveyor role.
- Background working for a main contractor within construction.
- Experience across civils, earthworks, infrastructure or demolition projects.
- Strong understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g. JCT, NEC).
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial acumen.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- MRICS or working towards chartership desirable but not essential.
- Salary £45k+ DOE.
