Conveyancing Solicitor / Fee Earner / CILEX

The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Conveyancing Solicitor, Fee Earner or CILEX-qualified professional to join a busy, growing and well-established residential property team based in Chelmsford, Essex.
This role would suit a confident and proactive residential conveyancing professional looking to further develop their career within a supportive, high-performing environment.
The successful candidate will have genuine hands-on experience managing their own residential conveyancing caseload, with the ability to take responsibility for transactions from initial instruction through to exchange and completion.
We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, client-focused and organised, with the confidence to manage files independently and deliver an excellent standard of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of residential conveyancing transactions from instruction through to completion.
- Handle freehold and leasehold sales and purchases.
- Review title documentation, searches, contracts and property information.
- Raise and respond to enquiries, identifying and resolving potential issues.
- Prepare contracts, reports on title, completion statements and associated documentation.
- Liaise directly with clients, estate agents, lenders, brokers and other legal professionals.
- Provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice throughout the conveyancing process.
- Progress transactions proactively, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed.
- Handle exchange, completion and relevant post-completion formalities, including SDLT and Land Registry requirements.
- Maintain accurate case management records and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal procedures.
- Deliver excellent client care while contributing to departmental performance and targets.
About You
To be considered, you will ideally have:
- Experience as a Residential Conveyancing Solicitor, Conveyancing Fee Earner or CILEX-qualified professional.
- Proven experience independently managing residential conveyancing matters.
- A strong understanding of the conveyancing process from instruction through to completion.
- Experience handling freehold and leasehold sales and purchases.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, lenders, estate agents and other solicitors.
- The ability to identify and resolve legal and transactional issues.
- Strong drafting, communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive and commercially minded approach to managing files.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- A commitment to providing a high standard of client service.
Experience with new-build transactions, remortgages, transfers of equity, shared ownership or high-volume caseloads would be advantageous but is not essential.
What We're Looking For
The key requirement is genuine, hands-on fee-earning conveyancing experience.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have taken responsibility for managing and progressing their own conveyancing matters, rather than solely assisting or supporting other fee earners.
Whether you are a qualified Solicitor, CILEX professional or experienced Conveyancing Fee Earner, you should be confident handling your own files, communicating directly with clients and progressing transactions efficiently.
