Overview

An opportunity has become available for a highly skilled Centreless Grinder to join a precision engineering environment, ideally with aerospace experience. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for setting, operating, and maintaining a range of grinding and second-operation machinery. The role requires a commitment to producing high-quality components, improving efficiency, and supporting a zero-defect culture. You will work safely, accurately, and proactively, contributing to continuous improvement while meeting production and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grinding & Machine Operation: Set up and operate centreless grinding machines — experience with Wickman Scrivener, Ghiringhelli, Cincinnati OR Tschadun grinders is essential. Operate Myford grinders (advantageous but not mandatory). Support a range of second-operation machinery, which may include thread-rolling equipment, drill banks, part marking tools, deburring systems, torque testing machines, depitching presses, and more.
  • Quality Control: Perform first-off inspections and in-process checks on components from both grinding and second-operation machines. Carry out buddy checks and ensure all inspection stages are completed accurately. Work to tight tolerances and ensure all manufactured parts meet defined quality standards.
  • Performance & Efficiency: Help minimise scrap and rework, feeding back issues and improvements to the Production Manager. Maintain machine performance to support delivery schedules, KPIs, arrears reduction, and parts-per-hour targets. Record cycle times and complete daily machine maintenance documentation.
  • Health, Safety & Workplace Standards: Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area in line with company and regulatory expectations.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong technical background in engineering, ideally with exposure to aerospace manufacturing standards.
  • Proven ability to set and run manual centreless grinders.
  • Confident in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in using measurement tools, especially micrometers, with a solid understanding of precision and tolerances.
  • Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and commitment to quality.
  • A collaborative team player with effective communication skills.
  • Ability to support company goals through consistent performance and proactive input.
