About the Role

We are seeking an organised, proactive, and client-focused Conveyancing Paralegal to join our busy Residential Property team in Chelmsford. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious legal professional looking to develop their career within a well-established and growing law firm.

The successful candidate will provide support to solicitors and fee earners while assisting with a broad range of residential conveyancing transactions. The role requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist fee earners with the management of residential conveyancing transactions from instruction through to completion.
  • Open new client files and undertake client onboarding procedures.
  • Carry out anti-money laundering (AML) and identity verification checks.
  • Prepare contract packs and supporting documentation.
  • Request and review property searches.
  • Draft routine correspondence and legal documents under supervision.
  • Liaise with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, brokers, developers, and other solicitors.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and provide updates on transaction progress.
  • Assist with exchange of contracts and completion arrangements.
  • Prepare completion statements and assist with financial transactions.
  • Submit applications to HM Land Registry and deal with post-completion formalities.
  • Ensure files are maintained accurately and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Use case management systems to manage workflow and monitor deadlines.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Residential Property team.

Candidate RequirementsEssential

  • Previous experience working in a conveyancing or residential property environment.
  • Good understanding of the residential conveyancing process.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional and client-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Law degree, CILEx qualification, LPC/SQE studies, or equivalent legal training.
  • Experience using legal case management systems.
  • Familiarity with HM Land Registry processes and SDLT submissions.
  • Experience working within a high-volume conveyancing team.
  • Ambition to progress towards a fee-earning or qualified legal role.
