A1 Jobs currently have a vacancy with our Edinburgh-based client for a 360 Material Handler Operator to join their business. Reporting to the Operations Director, the machine operator will carry out a range of tasks including ferrous metal sorting, metal processing; loading, and unloading containers; and loading and unloading vehicles. Part of our processing includes feeding a shear; experience of this although not essential, would be desirable and an advantage.
The successful candidate must be a be a self-motivated team player, adaptable and willing to do a range of different tasks. You will work effectively to a high standard, whilst working in a cooperative and flexible manner to cater for the varied needs of the business.
Key responsibilities
- Skillful operation of a 360 Material Handler
- Loading and unloading various types of vehicles
- Loading containers and RoRo boxes
- Sorting into bays and stockpiles
- Feeding the shear with the material handler to allow for efficient processing of material.
- Complying with all health and safety requirements and site rules.
- Following a schedule of work in a timely manner.
- Assisting with keeping the yard organised and tidy
Essential requirements and experience
- 360 Machine Ticket
- Experience with grabs, magnets, and sorting scrap metal.
- A knowledge of metal recycling is essential.

Desirable requirements and experience
- A UK drivers licence is desirable but not essential.

Work pattern
- Day shift Monday Friday with overtime opportunities.
- Overtime on Saturday mornings as required.
A competitive rate of pay hour depending on experience plus overtime opportunities at time and a half and benefits package with 28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) will be offered to the successful candidate. There is potential for career progression within the company with this role.
