AV Birch Ltd are specialists in engineering, design and the fabrication of mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. We provide a complete solution from concept design to installation, including all fabrication, machining, hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical work.

There is a requirement for both MIG and TIG welders at our Engineering facility, to fabricate and weld mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. The roles require someone with physical dexterity, problem solving abilities, stamina and attention to detail.

The main tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the position are:

  • Lay out, measure, and align metal work pieces prior to welding using straightedges, rules, and calipers
  • Cut and deburr metal components
  • Assess welds to ensure they are clean, free of error and in accordance with relevant welding codes
  • Read and interpret production drawings in order to lay out a welding project, fabricate and weld
  • Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to ensure smooth work operations
  • Maintain welding safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a risk-free work environment
  • Carry out welding according to set dimensions to meet general test requirements
  • Organize and clean welding equipment on a regular basis
  • Monitor inventory level of materials to notify supervisor of stock shortage
  • Cut holes through metal work pieces using drill press
  • Weld materials in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Adjust gas gauges to set the flow rate of shield gas
  • Use measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to check dimensions
  • Meet production targets whilst maintaining our standards of quality
  • Promote good housekeeping practices
  • Build positive relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Strive to continuously improve working practices and procedures and positively promote the same to colleagues

Qualifications:

  • Any recognized welding and/or engineering training / qualification
  • Full Driving licence
  • Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing work schedules

Additional Information:

  • Full time role, 40 hours per week. Mon-Thurs 7.00am-5.00pm, Friday 7.00am-11.30pm
  • Overtime rates: After 40 hours Mon-Thu 1+1/3, Fri after 11.30, 1+1/2, Saturday 1+1/2 for first 6hrs then double time thereafter, Sunday double time
  • Company Benefits: 28 days holiday (inc Bank Holidays) an additional 1 days' holiday for each year completed up to a maximum of 5 extra days
