Are you a hands‑on mechanical test engineer who takes pride in physically testing products to their limits, ensuring they are safe, strong, and ready for real‑world use? At A‑SAFE, we design and manufacture world‑leading physical safety barriers and protection systems used in warehouses, factories, airports and logistics centres across the globe. This practical, site‑based role will be based in our world‑class physical test facility, where you will prepare rigs, run tests, analyse results and guide a small team in safe, efficient test delivery.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and support the execution of product testing programmes, ensuring work is delivered safely, accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare, set up and execute physical product tests in the on‑site test facility, moving between test areas and handling test equipment.
- Maintain clear test schedules, resource plans and priorities to support the Test by Design department.
- Work closely with R&D, MPD and Operations teams to align testing activity with project requirements and timelines.
- Supervise and support test engineers and technicians on the test floor, fostering a positive, accountable and high‑performing team culture.
- Identify bottlenecks, risks and constraints, proactively escalating and resolving issues before they impact delivery.
- Ensure strong process discipline across test documentation, data logging, equipment usage and health & safety practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, refining workflows, increasing throughput and improving test efficiency.
- Contribute to maintenance and development of test equipment, facilities and infrastructure to ensure ongoing compliance and reliability.
- Produce clear, accurate technical reports and updates for internal stakeholders and project teams.
Qualifications
- Proven experience within a product testing, validation or test lab environment, ideally in a technical or manufacturing setting.
- Strong working knowledge of health & safety and quality systems, with experience operating within ISO or equivalent frameworks.
- High levels of mechanical competence, with the ability to assemble, prepare and secure products for accurate testing.
- Experience managing or supporting test planning, scheduling and resource coordination.
- Confidence handling technical data, documentation control and compliance processes.
- Experience supporting or leading engineers or technicians, with a collaborative and engaging leadership style.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple testing activities and shifting priorities.
- A proactive, hands‑on mindset and a practical problem‑solving approach.
- Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast moving, operational environment.
- A degree in an engineering discipline, ideally mechanical or related field, or equivalent experience gained in a practical engineering or test environment.
- Forklift driving experience (required).
Desirable
- Knowledge of relevant test standards such as PAS 13, UNI, ANSI MH31.2 or similar.
- Experience testing safety barrier systems or polymer‑based products.
- Exposure to specialist test equipment such as high‑speed cameras, advanced measurement systems or specialist lighting setups.
- Experience contributing to lean, continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives.
