Are you a hands-on mechanical or physical test engineer who enjoys pushing products to their limits and seeing the real-world impact of your work? If you take pride in practical engineering, robust testing and proving that products are safe, strong and fit for purpose, this could be the role for you.
At A-SAFE, we design and manufacture world-leading physical safety barriers and protection systems used in warehouses, factories, airports and logistics centres across the globe. Join us to prove the strength, reliability and performance of products that protect people, assets and workplaces every day.
This is a practical, site-based role in our dedicated world class physical test facility. We are proud to have built up bespoke and state of the art equipment from around the world to test our products to Industrial Standards.
This is not a software, electronics or desk-based testing role. You’ll be close to the action: preparing rigs, running tests, analysing results, improving methods and being a core member of a team to deliver safe, accurate and meaningful test outcomes.
What you’ll be doing:
  • Work hands-on in our on-site test facility, preparing test areas, setting up rigs and equipment, and supporting physical product testing on the test floor.
  • You’ll ensure strong process discipline across test documentation, data logging, equipment usage and health & safety practices.
  • You’ll produce clear, accurate technical reports and updates for internal stakeholders and project teams.
  • Support, coach and supervise technicians, helping create a positive, accountable and high-performing test team.
  • You’ll work closely with R&D, New Product Development and Operations teams to align testing activity with project requirements and timelines.
  • You’ll help identify bottlenecks, risks and constraints, proactively escalating and resolving issues before they impact delivery.
  • Influence future test capability by developing and adopting new technology and processes. You’ll support continuous improvement initiatives, helping refine workflows, increase throughput and improve test efficiency.
  • You’ll contribute to the maintenance and development of test equipment, facilities and infrastructure to ensure ongoing compliance and reliability.
  • Keep testing activity moving by helping manage schedules, resources, priorities and day-to-day workflow across the Test by Design department.

What we’re looking for:
  • Experience as a Test Engineer in physical product testing, validation/V&V, test lab work or a similar practical engineering environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of health & safety and quality systems, with experience operating within ISO or equivalent frameworks.
  • Strong mechanical competence, with confidence assembling, preparing, securing and testing physical products.
  • Confidence handling technical data, documentation control and compliance processes.
  • Experience supporting or leading engineers or technicians, with a collaborative and engaging leadership style.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple testing activities and shifting priorities.
  • Assisting with test planning, scheduling and resource coordination.
You’ll also bring:
  • A proactive, hands-on mindset, and thrive when working in a practical test facility where the real action takes place.
  • Competent with tools (hand or powered), measuring equipment and gauges (temperature, humidity, etc).
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office packages - Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook.
  • A practical problem-solving approach and a drive to improve how things are done.
  • Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • The confidence to highlight risks, challenge assumptions and suggest improvements constructively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast moving, operational environment where no two weeks are the same.
Desirable:
  • A degree in an engineering discipline, ideally mechanical or related field, or equivalent experience gained in a practical engineering or test environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant test standards for Industrial Safety Barriers such as PAS 13, UNI, ANSI MH31.2 or similar.
  • Experience testing safety barrier systems or polymer-based products.
  • Exposure to specialist test equipment such as high-speed cameras, advanced measurement systems or specialist lighting setups.
  • Experience contributing to lean, continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives.
  • Forklift driving experience.

Why you'll love working with us:
You’ll join a technically driven, collaborative team where your work has a clear purpose: helping develop safety-critical products used by some of the world’s biggest brands. This is a role with real ownership, visibility and the chance to influence how testing is delivered as the function continues to grow and improve.
If you enjoy hands-on engineering, practical problem solving and improving how things are done, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact in a growing global business.
