Are you a Production Manager focused on sustainable performance, not short-term fixes? We’re looking for a lean-focused Production Manager who is highly visible on the shop floor and confident leading in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the operation end-to-end, driving consistent standards across shifts and reducing reactive “firefighting” through strong routines and accountability. You will lead Shift Managers, coach teams, challenge the status quo, and deliver improvements in safety, quality and output.

Responsibilities

  • Keep a strong presence on the floor, walking production regularly and staying close to what’s really happening, not what the report says.
  • Lead and coach four Shift Managers (and their wider indirect teams), building consistent standards, rhythm and accountability across all shifts.
  • Drive performance through the core manufacturing KPIs (OTIF, OEE, waste/scrap and more), using data to spot gaps and turn them into practical improvement plans.
  • Review shift reporting daily, challenge commentary, dig into issues being raised, and keep coaching continual, not occasional.
  • Move the operation away from firefighting by putting strong standards in place, including more meaningful, more frequent 1:1s that adapt to the individual.
  • Lead with positivity and resilience, keeping team energy high.
  • Stay uncompromising on safety and quality, completing H&S observations, leading investigations, and drilling down to root cause.
  • Support new product rollouts and continuous improvement activity, including 5S and Kaizen, and help build a culture that improves by default.

Scale of operation: Responsibility across a 147-person operation (direct and indirect).

Qualifications

  • Lean capability: Green Belt essential, Black Belt desirable. You know the tools, and you can translate them into day-to-day behaviour on the floor.
  • High-volume manufacturing leadership: Proven experience leading production teams in a fast-paced environment. Automotive, aerospace, or similar lean-driven settings are a strong fit.
  • Coaching-led leadership style: Calm, firm and fair. You can keep standards high without killing morale.
  • Accountability and organisation: You set expectations clearly and hold people to them, consistently.
  • Structured problem solving: Confident with A3 thinking, investigations, process flows, and getting to root cause.
  • Integrity: Honest, transparent, and comfortable challenging “we’ve always done it this way”.
  • Desirable: Site move experience, IOSH/NEBOSH, ERP/MRP exposure (we can teach systems, but the mindset matters).

Benefits

  • A subsidised on-site gym, available for all colleagues.
  • Flexible start and finish times to fit around you and your lifestyle.
  • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and NICU pay.
  • 25 Days holiday plus bank holidays with the option to buy more.
  • Cycle to work scheme, Specsavers vouchers, long service rewards, EAP.
