We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Gardener to lead our horticultural team in maintaining and enhancing a variety of landscape environments. The ideal candidate will possess extensive gardening expertise, including proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and irrigation systems. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects, from landscape maintenance to specialised horticultural tasks, contributing to the beauty and health of our outdoor spaces. The Senior Gardener will also mentor junior staff and ensure all work adheres to safety and quality standards.
Duties
- Oversee and participate in the planting, pruning, and general maintenance of gardens and landscaped areas.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and irrigation equipment safely and efficiently.
- Plan and implement landscape projects, including planting schemes and seasonal displays, working closely with industry leading garden designers.
- Conduct regular inspections of plant health, soil conditions, and irrigation systems, making adjustments as necessary.
- Lead a team of gardeners, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high standards of horticultural care.
- Maintain accurate records of work processes and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during all operations.
- Assist with specialised horticultural tasks such as specialist pruning, growing plants from seed or cuttings, pest management, and soil improvement programmes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in gardening, horticulture or landscape maintenance roles with a focus on growing plants successfully.
- Strong knowledge of horticultural practices including pruning, fertilising, pest control, and soil management.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, irrigation systems, and other gardening equipment.
- Demonstrable experience in irrigation installation and maintenance is desirable.
- Familiarity with landscape design principles and project planning is advantageous.
- Ability to lead a team effectively whilst working independently when required.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Relevant qualifications in horticulture eg RHS level 1 and 2 or LANTRA.
