A Productions are looking for experienced 3D Modellers and/or Generalists of various levels to work with us on an exciting new children’s animated TV series. You will be responsible for creating high-quality character, environment and prop assets, from initial model through to textured, shaded, and pipeline-ready delivery — working closely with the CG Supervisor, the Series Director and the asset team.
Models are built in Maya, sculpted and detailed in ZBrush, and textured in Substance Painter. As part of the asset team, you will also be responsible for taking assets through to final lookdev, building and applying shaders and materials inside Unreal Engine. We are an award-winning animation studio based in central Bristol. Our success in creating engaging, original and award-winning content is made possible through the unique chemistry of the creative teams we build. This shared vision is underpinned by our focus on diversity and inclusion, staff wellbeing and ensuring an authentic voice across all our productions. Delivering a creative, inclusive work community that encourages collaboration, engagement and mutual trust is at its core.
General Duties:
- Character modelling: Build appealing, production-ready character models in Maya and ZBrush, maintaining the show’s art direction and working to approved concept designs.
- Environment & prop assets: Model environments, props, and set dressing elements to brief, ensuring consistency of scale, style, and detail across the production.
- Sculpting & detail: Use ZBrush to add surface detail, organic forms, and high-resolution sculpts for baking down to real-time resolution assets.
- Texturing: Create texture maps in Substance Painter and Photoshop — diffuse, roughness, normal etc — optimised for real-time rendering in Unreal Engine.
- Shading & lookdev in Unreal: Build and apply materials and shaders inside Unreal Engine, taking responsibility for the final look of your assets in the real-time environment. Ensure shaders are consistent with the show’s visual style and perform efficiently at render time.
- Asset delivery: Prepare clean, pipeline-ready assets with proper naming conventions, UV layouts, and LOD considerations, ready for handoff to the lighting and render team.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the CG Supervisor, other department leads and production team, incorporating feedback efficiently and communicating progress clearly.
Skills & Experience:
- 2+ years in CG modelling for animation, games, or TV.
- Strong portfolio of character and/or environment assets.
- Solid Maya modelling and UV unwrapping.
- High-res sculpting and retopology in ZBrush.
- Texturing in Substance Painter.
- Material and shader creation in Unreal Engine.
- Takes direction and feedback with a positive attitude.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of form and surface.
- Works efficiently within deadlines and production schedules.
- Experience on children’s TV or stylised animation.
- Knowledge of Unreal Engine material functions and instances.
