Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge is an advantage. Extra Shift paid at £21:37 per hour. Sunday £28:41 per hour. Plus Extras where applicable. £1:75 per hour (for hours between 2200hrs and 0600hrs) Night Out Allowance £33:81 (per night completed).

Duties include shunting of Class 1 and 2 vehicles within the Bedford Transport yard, delivering and collecting vehicles from service providers along with deliveries to bulk customers.

Job Purpose: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Vehicle Shunter to join our team at the Bedford RDC. In this role, you will be responsible for manoeuvring company vehicles to support efficient loading and unloading operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and maintaining communication throughout your shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely manoeuvre company vehicles to facilitate smooth loading and unloading operations.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on vehicles.
  • Maintain consistent radio communication with despatch offices and promptly report any delays affecting operations.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic regulations and use a tachograph card to record all duties and breaks in accordance with the Working Time Directive Legislation.
  • Monitor vehicle refrigeration temperatures and report any defects immediately.
  • Report vehicle accidents and sanitation issues, ensuring cleanliness of vehicles and trailers.
  • Transfer vehicles and trailers to and from service providers as required.
  • Occasionally deliver goods to customers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Transport Team Manager.

Key Requirements:

  • Numerate and literate.
  • Valid vehicle/equipment operator licenses.
  • Proven experience in warehousing and distribution operations.
  • Demonstrable experience operating vehicles and equipment.
