A leading Tier 1 Main Contractor is seeking an experienced Bid Writer to join its Welwyn Garden City office. The successful candidate will join the Northern Home Counties business, working across a portfolio of major building projects within the London and Home Counties division. The role is primarily office based with flexibility for occasional remote working.

The Role

The Bid Writer will work as part of the Preconstruction Team, taking the lead on producing high-quality submission documents and carrying out client and market research to support work-winning activity across the Northern Home Counties business. The role requires someone who can write persuasively, manage multiple inputs and contribute to the development of winning bid strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing high-quality written content for PQQs, tenders and proposals
  • Understanding client requirements and developing compelling win themes and USPs
  • Researching markets, competitors and project opportunities
  • Supporting Business Development with scheme research, pipeline activity and events
  • Leading and facilitating brainstorming sessions, workshops and response development meetings
  • Engaging with bid, design, commercial and project teams to gather information
  • Interviewing subject matter experts to extract technical detail and methodologies
  • Preparing CVs, case studies and supporting collateral
  • Attending launch meetings, agreeing deliverables and managing deadlines
  • Attending site visits to gather project intelligence
  • Drafting executive summaries and communicating key themes to the wider team
  • Reviewing responses for clarity, consistency and alignment with strategy
  • Maintaining a database of standard responses, CVs, case studies and feedback
  • Supporting preparation for mid-tender and post-tender interviews
  • Incorporating feedback to continuously improve submission quality
