A leading main contractor is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join its Cambridge team. The business delivers major education and public-sector projects and maintains a strong regional presence with a consistent pipeline of work.

The Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial function on 2 new build DfE school projects located near Ipswich, Suffolk. The position suits candidates living in Cambridge and surrounding areas who want long-term stability and involvement in major schemes. The role is largely site based and involves commercial responsibility for projects valued between £30 million and £40 million.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the commercial lead on education projects valued at £30 million to £40 million
  • Assist with procurement, subcontractor packages, valuations and reporting
  • Contribute to change control, forecasting and commercial risk management
  • Support pre-construction activity on 2-stage tenders
  • Maintain accurate financial control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and framework requirements

The Right Person

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management
  • Experience working on multi-million-pound education or public-sector schemes
  • Understanding of JCT contracts and 2-stage procurement
  • Confident managing subcontractors, reporting, forecasting and commercial administration
  • Able to work effectively within a collaborative project team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to be site based across Cambridge, Suffolk and Essex
