An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join a respected and successful main contractor with a strong pipeline of work and an excellent strike rate. This role suits someone looking to progress their commercial career within a stable contractor delivering high-quality construction projects.
The company delivers a balanced mix of new-build and refurbishment schemes (50/50 split) across commercial buildings, education, healthcare, heritage, leisure, community facilities, residential developments, fit-outs and complex refurbishments. The General Contracts-style division typically undertakes projects between £1m and £10m, with the wider business capable of delivering schemes up to £40m. You will join a strong commercial and pre-construction team based in Hertfordshire, working alongside experienced Estimators and Quantity Surveyors. Hybrid working can be discussed.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of construction projects from pre-contract through to final account. Key duties include cost management, procurement, subcontractor packages, valuations, variations, change control, cost reporting, cashflow forecasting, commercial risk management, contract administration (JCT/NEC), and supporting project delivery teams with commercial and contractual advice. You will ensure projects meet financial targets, contractual obligations and client expectations.
About You
You will have proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a UK main contractor and be confident managing projects independently from a commercial perspective. You will have experience across both new-build and refurbishment schemes, strong knowledge of JCT or NEC contracts, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and a solid understanding of procurement and cost control. An RICS qualification is desirable but not essential. A full UK driving licence is preferred.
Why This Role Stands Out
You will gain exposure to diverse, high-quality construction projects across multiple sectors, working on schemes between £1m and £10m with opportunities to support larger projects up to £40m. The business offers stability, a strong pipeline, a collaborative culture and genuine long-term progression opportunities.
Package and Benefits
Competitive salary, car or car allowance, mileage, private healthcare, additional employee benefits and a clear progression pathway.
