We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead design delivery across tenders and live projects within the Welwyn Garden City business. This role is project-based and office-based, offering flexibility for occasional remote working.
About the Role
You will take ownership of the design process from bid through to delivery. Responsibilities include developing design strategies, coordinating internal and external designers, overseeing RIBA stages, ensuring compliance, and maintaining alignment with commercial targets, programme and client requirements. You will work closely with design consultants, subcontractors, statutory authorities and internal project teams to produce coordinated, compliant and cost-effective design information.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage design resources at bid and delivery stages
- Provide a comprehensive design service to clients and partners
- Lead and coordinate design through all RIBA stages
- Challenge briefs and drive innovation
- Ensure compliance with design procedures
- Develop and support design strategies
- Maintain adherence to design briefs and scopes of service
- Chair design reviews and coordination meetings
- Oversee discipline designers to deliver integrated solutions
- Ensure design outputs meet construction, cost and programme requirements
What We're Looking For
An experienced Senior Design Manager with a strong track record delivering Healthcare schemes for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Contractor. You will also have:
- Strong experience in main contracting
- Experience on Healthcare and Education projects
- Knowledge of construction design and design management principles
- Experience with single-stage and two-stage tenders
- HNC/HND or equivalent in a related field
- Professional membership beneficial
- Strong leadership and stakeholder communication skills
- A collaborative, proactive working approach
