Quantity Surveyor – Luton, Bedfordshire
Salary : Up to £70,000 + £5,000 car allowance
Location : Luton office (projects within 30 miles)
Hours : Monday–Friday, 8.00 AM – 5 : 00 PM
Job Type : Full-time, office-based with regular site visits
Current project locations include : Luton, St Albans, Northampton
We’re seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a well‑established, family‑run contractor with a strong local presence and a reputation for delivering high‑quality projects. You’ll manage the commercial function across a range of D&B new build and refurbishment schemes, all within a comfortable 30‑mile radius of Luton.
About the Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take ownership of the commercial management of multiple projects, ensuring financial control, accurate reporting, and strong subcontractor and client relationships. You’ll be based in the office in Luton and on site, and will enjoy managing your own diary
What You’ll Do
- Prepare cost plans, estimates, and feasibility studies
- Manage tendering processes and evaluate subcontractor quotations
- Produce bills of quantities, schedules of work, and procurement documentation
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and cashflow throughout the project lifecycle
- Prepare interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
- Manage subcontractor accounts, variations, and commercial negotiations
- Conduct site visits to measure works, assess progress, and support project teams
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and support dispute resolution
- Maintain accurate commercial records, cost reports, and documentation
- Support procurement strategy and value engineering initiatives
- Work closely with project managers to ensure projects meet cost and contract constraints
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a general contractor
- Experience working on projects up to £5m
- Strong background in refurbishment and new build schemes
- Excellent understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
- Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects within a local radius
- Relevant construction‑related qualification (HNC / HND / Degree or equivalent)
- CSCS card (Black or working toward it is advantageous)
