A multi-disciplinary contractor requires a Head of Projects to lead the Projects Department and guide operational, commercial and strategic performance. The business delivers Facilities Management, Small Works, Mechanical and Electrical services, refurbishment and fit-out projects. The Head of Projects provides leadership across a multi-million pound project portfolio and oversees Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Site Management teams. The position forms part of the Senior Leadership Team and carries full responsibility for departmental performance, commercial outcomes and future growth. The role suits someone who can shape structure, improve consistency and guide a high performing team while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the Projects Department and ensure safe, high quality, on programme delivery
- Manage a multi-million pound portfolio across refurbishment, fit out and M and E driven schemes
- Provide strategic direction and commercial oversight
- Develop and support Project Managers and future leaders
- Strengthen client relationships and support business development activity
- Drive performance improvements and accountability across project delivery
- Oversee programme management, resource planning and operational controls
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and CDM regulations
- Contribute to wider business strategy as part of the Senior Leadership Team
- Minimum ten years within construction, fit out, refurbishment or building services
- Experience operating in a senior leadership role managing multiple projects
- Background overseeing multi-million pound project portfolios
- Experience leading Project Managers, Senior Project Managers and Site teams
- Strong delivery record across safety, programme, budget and quality
- Experience within fast paced principal contractor environments
- Strong people leader able to guide and develop teams
- Confident driving accountability and performance
- Experienced in building structure, process and consistency
- Able to mentor and develop future leaders
- Comfortable operating at Senior Leadership Team level with strategic influence
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of P and L
- Experience in procurement, contract management and risk mitigation
- Skilled in forecasting, margin control and cost management
- Able to balance operational delivery with commercial performance
- Strong understanding of project delivery from pre-construction to handover
- Experience across refurbishment, fit out and ideally M and E coordination
- Excellent programme management and resource planning capability
- Strong understanding of quality assurance processes and compliance frameworks
- Up to date knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM regulations
- Ability to build and maintain long term client relationships
- Confident in client facing environments and presentations
- Supports tenders, bids and business development activity
