A growing Bedford-based main contractor is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with 2+ years experience to join its Eastern Region commercial team. The business delivers projects across commercial offices, hospitality, hotels, student accommodation, residential, new build and major refurbishment, with group turnover approaching £200m and a strong pipeline of secured work.
Location & Contractor Base
The contractor is headquartered in Bedford, making this role ideal for candidates living in Bedfordshire or the surrounding areas who are happy to travel to the initial project in Watford. Future schemes will include work across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and the wider region, including a major upcoming project in Stevenage.
Project Overview
You will join an established site team, including a Senior QS, on a live £17m scheme involving a new build element and the fit out of upper-floor rooms. The project runs until January next year, giving you immediate exposure to a high-value, complex scheme and the opportunity to take ownership of defined commercial packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting all commercial duties on a £17m new build and fit out project
- Assisting with procurement, tendering, cost control, valuations and variations
- Preparing and maintaining accurate commercial documentation and reports
- Liaising with subcontractors, issuing enquiries and supporting negotiation
- Working closely with the Senior QS, Project Manager and wider site team
- Contributing to forecasting, risk management and financial control
- Providing wider commercial support across the region as required
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience in a Quantity Surveying role (main contractor preferred)
- HNC or above in a construction-related discipline
- Experience in new build or fit-out environments
- Strong understanding of commercial processes, measurement and reporting
- Confident in managing smaller packages or supporting larger project elements
- Based within reach of Bedford / Bedfordshire / Milton Keynes / Buckinghamshire
