We are looking for a skilled QS for an immediate Freelance QS role.

Location: North Hertfordshire

Contract: Freelance 6 Months

Rate: £300-£500 per day - Client open to 3-5 days

Start Date: ASAP

CSCS is essential for this role. No site access without a CSCS card.

About the Role

A freelance Quantity Surveyor is required for a high-tech processing plant fit-out programme in North Hertfordshire. This is a hands-on role working for a specialist subcontractor delivering internal packages on complex industrial and technical schemes. You will work closely with a commercially minded Director and be based mainly on site, managing day-to-day commercial activity and ensuring accurate records, measurements and cost control.

Scope of Works:

  • Fireboarding
  • Dry lining and ceilings
  • Firestopping
  • Flooring and resin systems
  • Internal and fire-rated doors (plus some external doors)
  • Roller shutters and fire curtains

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take-offs and measurement of materials for ordering
  • Daily worksheets, record keeping and commercial tracking
  • Manage internal fit-out packages from procurement through to final account
  • Prepare subcontract orders, variations and payment applications (NEC preferred)
  • Material price checks, benchmarking and supply chain comparisons
  • Manage subcontractor accounts including valuations, change control and payment notices
  • Validate dayworks, site records and progress
  • Produce cost reports, forecasts and value tracking
  • Support procurement, tender analysis and package recommendations
  • Regular site presence to walk the works and verify progress
  • Build strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and delivery teams
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities

Person specification:

  • Minimum 4 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Background with a main contractor or subcontractor
  • Experience across internal fit-out, fire protection, dry lining, ceilings, flooring or similar packages
  • Hands-on approach with strong take-off, measurement and ordering skills
  • Confident managing worksheets, dayworks and site-based records
  • Strong commercial management skills across procurement, variations, cost reporting and final accounts
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment

Qualifications:

  • HNC or above in a construction-related discipline
  • CSCS card
