Design Manager Bedfordshire Salary & Package: £60,000£80,000 basic, depending on experience Company car or car allowance Private healthcare Performance-related bonus Company pension Long-term project in Bedfordshire Opportunity to join a major scheme during pre-construction We are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join an award-winning main contractor delivering a major £400m mixed-use development in Bedfordshire. This is a long-term opportunity on a flagship regional project with an anticipated four-year programme. The role starts during the early pre-construction stage, giving the successful Design Manager the chance to influence design development, technical compliance, procurement and buildability from the outset. The initial 12-month pre-construction phase will include regular travel to the London office before the project team moves to site in Bedfordshire.
The Role
Working as part of the project team, you will manage the design process from feasibility and planning through procurement, technical coordination and delivery. You will work closely with the client, consultants, commercial team and site delivery team to keep the design coordinated, compliant and aligned with the programme.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery Act as the key link between the client, design consultants and site team Review drawings, specifications and technical information for accuracy, compliance and buildability Coordinate external consultants and monitor performance against agreed deliverables Support procurement by identifying design requirements, risks and information deadlines Ensure the design meets relevant regulations, standards, programme dates and commercial targets Resolve design queries and maintain clear communication across the wider project team Experience Required At least five years experience in design management for a UK main contractor Experience supporting or delivering large-scale construction or mixed-use development projects Strong knowledge of pre-construction, design coordination, technical compliance and procurement Confident managing consultants, reviewing technical information and working with site teams Previous experience as a Design Manager, Assistant Design Manager, Technical Manager, Design Coordinator or Design & Build Manager Qualifications An HNC, degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline would be advantageous.
