A well-established, multi-disciplinary building contractor is recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to support a growing pipeline of commercial and general contracting projects across Buckinghamshire. The business operates across Facilities Management, Small Works, Mechanical and Electrical services and full project delivery, with a culture built around quality, trust, care, flexibility and long-term relationships.

This position suits an experienced Mechanical Estimator or a mechanically biased professional looking to progress further into pre-construction.

The Role

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for producing accurate and competitive mechanical cost estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission. Projects typically include commercial units, warehouses, light industrial sites and general contracting environments. You will work closely with project managers, engineers and procurement teams to ensure estimates align with client requirements, delivery strategy and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimating and Tendering
    • Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation to prepare accurate mechanical estimates
    • Produce take-offs, bills of quantities, schedules and detailed cost breakdowns
    • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and negotiate best value
    • Identify risks, exclusions and value engineering opportunities
    • Prepare and submit compliant tender submissions within agreed deadlines
    • Provide early-stage pricing to support feasibility and design decisions
  • Collaboration and Support
    • Work closely with project managers, engineers and procurement teams
    • Attend pre- and post-tender meetings as required
    • Support smooth handover of successful tenders to commercial and delivery teams
  • Commercial and Financial Management
    • Maintain accurate pricing records, supplier quotations and cost databases
    • Ensure estimates reflect current market costs while remaining competitive
    • Monitor material and labour cost trends
  • Compliance and Standards
    • Ensure all estimating activity aligns with company procedures and industry standards
    • Keep up to date with regulations and developments in mechanical building services

Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within commercial, industrial or facilities environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services
  • Confident interpreting drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Commercially aware with experience in cost analysis and value engineering
  • Excellent numeracy, analytical and IT skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Able to manage multiple tenders and tight deadlines
  • Detail-focused, proactive and solutions-driven
  • Full UK driving licence
